Axtell ISD works to ensure all students receive high-quality instruction in literacy, math, science, social studies, music, and PE. At the center of our elementary curriculum is instruction in reading and writing, foundational math skills, and communicative social skills. Our teachers strive to make the best academic decisions for our students based on state, district, and individual goals to ensure the growth of all students.
LITERACY
The Axtell ISD approach to literacy encompasses phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, written composition, grammar, and handwriting instruction. This instruction occurs through a series of workshops, which begin with direct, explicit instruction followed by opportunities for students to apply the learning through independent and collaborative practice.
MATH
The mission of Axtell ISD elementary math program is to promote meaningful learning for all students through a comprehensive curriculum. Our program is committed to maximizing the learning of mathematics in which students are engaged in the process of making sense of mathematics, developing conceptual understanding of mathematical concepts, applying strategies for solving meaningful problems, and working as a community of learners.
